Safety Tips

Follow these steps while our engineer is on the way to keep you and your family safe.

Water Leak or Burst Pipe

  • Turn off your stopcock immediately (usually under the kitchen sink or where the main supply enters)
  • Switch off electricity at the fuse board if water is near any electrical fittings
  • Open taps to drain remaining water from the pipes
  • Move valuables and furniture away from the affected area
  • Take photos for your insurance claim
  • Do not attempt to repair copper or plastic pipes yourself

Gas Smell or Suspected Leak

  • Do NOT switch any electrical switches on or off — this can create a spark
  • Do NOT use your mobile phone inside the property
  • Turn off the gas at the meter (lever handle perpendicular to the pipe = off)
  • Open all windows and doors immediately
  • Evacuate all people and pets from the building
  • Call us from outside — also call the National Gas Emergency line: 0800 111 999
